OC softball program adds Powell to signing list

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 24, 2021) -- Marissa Powell, who led her high school team to the Texas Class 5A state championship game earlier this year, has signed to play college softball at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Shalee Rodriguez said Wednesday.

Powell, a 5-foot-8 utility player from Fort Worth, Texas, started as an outfielder for Aledo High School but also can play in the infield. She played club softball for Impact Gold Fastpitch.

"We are excited Marissa is joining our team from the Lone Star State," Rodriguez said. "She is a high-level hitter who wil bring great power to our lineup. Marissa has great command at the plate and knows her zone well. She is a gap-to-gap hitter who is capable of driving in many runs for us. Marissa is a true utility infielder who excels at several spots."

She joins twins Kadence and Kiley Brewster of Wichita, Kan.; infielder Lilli Daniels of Oklahoma City and Jill Dickson, a pitcher from Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, in OC's 2022 signing class.

This year's signees will join a program that has established itself among the elite in NCAA Division II, rising to a No. 4 national ranking in 2021 and earning the No. 1 seed in the Division II South Central Regional.
