TULSA, Okla. (Nov. 13, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's Ultimate regular-season dominance has continued smoothly into the postseason.
The Eagles, ranked third in the
Ultiworld Division III poll, won four matches on Saturday at the West Bank Sports Complex to advance to the title match in the USA Ultimate South Central Regional, one step away from the Division III national tournament.
OC, with a 9-1 record thus far in two postseason events, will face No. 13-ranked Colorado College at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday for the regional title. OC held off Colorado College 12-10 during pool play on Saturday.
The Eagles opened pool play against Colorado School of Mines, racing to a 7-4 halftime lead before eventually winning 13-8. The tale was similar in OC's next game, against Rice, with a 7-4 halftime lead en route to a 13-9 win. That win clinched the Eagles a spot in the event semifinals.
To close pool play, Colorado College took an early 4-3 lead over the Eagles before OC went on a 4-1 run to go up 7-5. The Eagles never trailed again.
In the semifinals, OC faced No. 20 Truman State (Mo.), which dealt the Eagles their only postseason loss so far, in pool play two weeks in the Ozarks Conference tournament. The Eagles avenged that loss later in the Ozarks event and did so again Saturday, jumping to a 3-1 lead and never trailing while winning 12-9.
The regional champion will earn an automatic berth in the USA Ultimate Division III College Championship, set for Dec. 17-20 in Norco, Calif.
