NORMAN, Okla. (Oct. 3, 2021) – With three wins on Sunday, Oklahoma Christian's club Ultimate team earned the first tournament title in its three-season history, taking top honors in the University of Oklahoma's Just Plain Nasty event at the OU Intramural Fields.
A 4-0 performance in pool play on Saturday earned the Eagles a first-round bye in bracket play and they took advantage of the extra rest. They rolled past OKC Lunch Bunch 13-3 and Texas State 13-1 before earning a measure of revenge in the final with a 12-6 win over Missouri S&T, a squad that beat OC two weeks ago in the Rookie Ride tournament title match in Tulsa.
Against the Lunch Bunch, OC jumped to a 3-0 lead thanks to two breaks and never was threatened. It was even more lopsided against Texas State, with the Eagles scoring the first six points and Texas State's only point coming on a Callahan, the equivalent of a safety in football. A
Kyle Henke scoring pass to
Jonathan Costello finished the match for OC.
The Eagles fell into a 2-0 hole against Missouri S&T before scoring the next three points and never trailing again. OC led 7-5 at halftime and Henke took over down the stretch for the Eagles to seal the win and the tournament title.
OC's next competition will be the Ozarks Conference tournament, which will be played in Tulsa at the West Bank Sports Complex on Oct. 16-17.
