DALLAS (Oct. 2, 2021) – Freshman Liberty Pierce led Oklahoma Christian's women's bowling team to a fourth-place finish in the season-opening Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit I tournament on Saturday at USA Bowl.

Through five team games and 12 Baker games, OC's varsity team posted a score of 6,587 pins, trailing only Tulane (7,094), Stephen F. Austin (7,062) and Louisiana Tech (7,050).

The Eagles' junior varsity team entered in the tournament placed third in a field of three in that division with a score of 5,824, trailing Stephen F. Austin (6,566) and Louisiana Tech (6,337).

Pierce, from Kingwood, Texas, competed on the varsity team and finished seventh – just two spots off the all-tournament team – with a total of 964 over five games and a high game of 210. Shelby Davis, a freshman from La Porte, Texas, led the OC JV team and finished eighth individually at 961, rolling a 239 in her fourth game.

Claire McDermott, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Ill., rolled games of 223, 206 and 215 for the OC varsity and finished 11th in the 71-woman field at 929. Also competing for the varsity, sophomore Morgan Pelkie of Sarnia, Ontario, placed 18th at 903, with a top game of 206.

The Eagles' varsity team picked up one other 200 game, a 217 from freshman Jordan Corbett of Owasso, Okla.

Madison McCall of Tulane won the individual title with a score of 995.

"Our ladies finished behind three NCAA (Division I) teams," OC coach James Hayes said. "The ladies came out and competed today. We are happy with their overall effort today.  We will meet tonight and regroup for SWIBC II."

The SWIBC II tournament will be held Sunday at USA Bowl, starting at 7:45 a.m.
