SHAWNEE, Okla. (Feb. 7, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian's women's bowling team appears to be peaking at the right time of the season.

Coming off a win in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit V tournament, a fourth-place showing in SWIBC VI and a last-day rally for a top-20 finish in a Tier I event, the Eagles seem prime and ready for the SWIBC Championships, which will begin a two-day run Saturday at Firelake Bowl.

OC enters the tournament fifth in the SWIBC standings and could rise as high as second, depending on the order of finish in this week's event. Both regular-season and tournament championships will be determined this weekend.

The Eagles' top bowler this season has been freshman Morgan Pelkie of Sarnia, Ontario, who has a 183.17 scoring average over 23 individual games in SWIBC play. Close behind her are sophomore Taylore Ryan of Allen, Texas (182.90 over 21 games) and junior Abbey Parks of Broken Arrow (182.71 over 24 games), giving the Eagles a consistent trio atop their lineup.

The Eagles are looking to seal their second straight trip to college bowling's postseason, the bids for which will be announced in early March.

"We are really riding some momentum and hope to continue that this weekend at the championships and next weekend at the (Tier I) Hoosier Classic," OC coach James Hayes said. "We did have a small setback, losing one of our starters to a foot injury, but I feel confident that the other ladies will step up and fill her role. Again it will come down to executing at a high level and filling frames. If we do those things, then I think we will be real competitive."

On Saturday, teams will begin play about 12:30 p.m. and will bowl six regular team games. On Sunday, bowlers will roll three more regular team teams before the field is cut to the top four teams for match play, which will be the best-of-five Baker games.
