OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 28, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian coach
Lonny Cobble announced Saturday a 40-game baseball schedule for the 2021 season, one that will include the Eagles' first nonconference games since the 2019 campaign.
Under NCAA guidelines put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Division II baseball teams will be limited to 40 games this season, down from the usual 50. As a result, the Lone Star Conference – which mandated four-game series in 2020, resulting in a 50-game league schedule – reduced all series to three games for 2021.
That, along with the departure of Tarleton State (Texas) from the LSC into the NCAA Division I ranks, means the Eagles will play 36 games in 2021 against LSC opponents, leaving room for four games against a pair of local rivals, Central Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene.
OC will open the season against LSC rival St. Mary's (Texas) on Feb. 5-6, with the teams playing a doubleheader the first day. Then will come a three-game series at Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Feb. 12-14 before the Eagles host Angelo State (Texas) on Feb. 19-21.
After a three-game series at Texas A&M International on Feb. 26-27, OC will play its first nonconference game March 2, when the Eagles will travel to Bethany to face Southern Nazarene.
The Eagles will play two more LSC series – home against Texas A&M-Kingsville on March 5-7 and at St. Edward's (Texas) on March 12-14 – before a nonconference game in Edmond against Central Oklahoma on March 16.
OC will host West Texas A&M on March 19-21, travel to Eastern New Mexico on March 26-27 and host Cameron March 1-2 – all in three-game series – before hosting Central Oklahoma on April 6 at Dobson Field.
After a trip to Texas-Permian Basin for a series April 9-11, OC will host Southern Nazarene on April 13 before closing the regular season April 16-18 at home against Texas-Tyler and at Arkansas-Fort Smith on April 23-24.
The LSC will hold the first round of its postseason tournament – three-game series between qualifying teams – from May 7-9, with the advancing teams meeting in Cleburne, Texas, from May 13-15 for a double-elimination event.
