DALLAS (Jan. 11, 2020) –
Taylore Ryan and
Morgan Pelkie each made the all-tournament team to lead Oklahoma Christian to the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit V title on Saturday at USA Bowl.
It was just the second tournament title in the two-season history of OC's women's program. The other came on Sept. 23, 2018, when the Eagles won the SWIBC II tournament at Western Bowl in Amarillo, Texas.
Over five individual games and 12 Baker games, the Eagles posted a score of 6,957 pins to top the seven-team field. Newman (Kan.) was second at 6,820 and Baker (Kan.) third at 6,735.
OC coach
James Hayes praised his team's execution and the work of his assistant coach,
James Vaughn Jr., who guided the women on Saturday.
"They stayed positive all day," Hayes said. "Coach Vaughn had the ladies executing probably their best of the year so far. The coaching staff could not be more pleased of how these teams came out and competed after the (holiday) break. We need to keep this momentum going into tomorrow."
Ryan, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, rolled consecutive games of 216, 223 and 206 and placed third among 63 women with a five-game individual score of 1,023. She made an all-tournament team – an honor earned by the top five individual finishers in a tournament – for the fourth time in her career.
Pelkie, a freshman from Sarnia, Ontario, rolled a 221 in her opening game and a pair of 200s in games four and five and placed fourth individually at 984. OC junior
Abbey Parks of Broken Arrow, Okla., finished 12th at 881.
Freshmen
Claire McDermott,
Emily Tripp and
Athena Walker each rolled at least two games for OC as well.
The Eagles will compete in the SWIBC VI tournament on Sunday at Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas.
