LAWRENCE, Kan. (Sept. 14, 2019) –
Andrew Ehler led Oklahoma Christian with a 21st-place finish as the Eagles made their first appearance in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships on Saturday morning.
The race attracted 46 swimmers from a mix of teams that competed at the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III levels. Ehler, a sophomore from Oak Point, Texas, who holds all of OC's distance freestyle swimming records, covered the 5,000-meter course at Lone Star Lake in 1:05:22.2.
Two other OC swimmers finished the race – sophomore
Bergen Davis of Juneau, Alaska (31st in 1:08:17.4) and junior
Caleb Brown of New Braunfels, Texas (36th in 1:10:18.6). As a team, the Eagles finished ninth of 10 squads with a team score of 88.
Grand Valley State (Mich.) won the team title with a score of 22 and had the individual winner as well in Moritz Bartels, who posted a time of 58:45.6.
The rest of OC's squad will open its season next Saturday in the Sam Freas Invitational, to be held in Edmond, Okla., at the Edmond YMCA Recreation and Aquatic Center at Mitch Park.
