Former OC standout Strickland named as Connors State assistant

Former OC softball player Hunter Strickland is moving into the coaching ranks.
WARNER, Okla. (Sept. 12, 2019) – Hunter Strickland, an All-Heartland Conference center fielder for Oklahoma Christian in 2019, now is an assistant softball coach at Connors State College.

Connors State competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association's Region II and the Cowgirls are coming off a 16-31 season. Strickland has experience as a player at the junior-college level, having spent two seasons at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid before transferring to OC.

Strickland, from Oklahoma City, hit .241 with 14 RBIs as a junior at OC in 2018. This past season, she earned All-Heartland first-team honors after starting all 56 games for the Eagles, hitting .361 and scoring 57 runs as OC went 40-16. Her 18 stolen bases ranked fourth in the Heartland and her batting average ranked fifth. She committed only one error all season in center field and earned one Heartland player-of-the-week award.

She played a key role as OC won the Heartland regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the championship round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional. During four games in the regional, she went 6 of 12 with four runs scored and an RBI.
