GOLDEN, Colo. (May 22, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian center fielder Hunter Markwardt received second-team honors on the All-South Central Region list released Wednesday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Markwardt, a junior from Argyle, Texas, starred as a leadoff hitter and slick-fielding outfielder for the Eagles, who were a surprise team this season, finishing 28-20 overall, including a 9-5 mark against teams that were selected to play in the NCAA Division II tournament.

He hit .372 with three home runs and 23 RBIs for the Eagles, adding 18 doubles and four triples for a .551 slugging percentage. He led the Heartland in stolen bases with 21 (in 24 attempts) and set what is believed to be a conference record with a 28-game hitting streak.

In Heartland stats, he also finished first in runs (63) and doubles, second in triples, fourth in batting average, on-base percentage (.445) and hits (73) and ninth in slugging percentage. He was named to the All-Heartland first-team list earlier this month.

"Hunter's play as our leadoff hitter fueled our offense," OC coach Lonny Cobble said. "He got on base often and was a threat once he was there, he delivered clutch hits when we needed them and he was outstanding defensively in center field. He impressed a lot of people with how well he played this season."

The NCBWA's All-South Central Region teams are voted on by a committee of nine members with three representatives from each league in the region – the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences.

Markwardt is the seventh OC player to make one of the three major All-Region teams (produced by the NCBWA, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association) since the program began competing in NCAA Division II with the 2013 season, joining Dillon Endecott (2014), Blake Stringer (2014), Jordan Lopez (2014), Ben McKenzie (2016), Kolton Brown (2017) and Jake Collins (2018).
