OKLAHOMA CITY (April 23, 2019) – For the third time this baseball season, Oklahoma Christian left-hander
Gabe Rodery was named Tuesday as the Heartland Conference's pitcher of the week.
On Thursday, for the second time this season, Rodery outdueled Arkansas-Fort Smith ace Javon Rigsby to win a 1-0 game, allowing only one hit (a fourth-inning single) to go with a career-high 12 strikeouts. He retired the first eight batters he faced and didn't allow a UAFS runner past second base while posting his fifth complete game of the season.
The Lions hit just .043 against Rodery as he faced just four batters over the minimum.
Rodery received the Heartland honor in consecutive weeks in March after throwing shutouts against Rogers State (a four-hitter) and UAFS (a three-hitter).
This season, Rodery (7-1) ranks fifth in the Heartland in ERA (2.65), second in innings pitched (71 1/3), third in wins, second in strikeouts (77) and first in strikeouts looking (27).
OC (27-14) is scheduled to host Washburn (Kan.) at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the final home game of the 2019 season.
