OKLAHOMA CITY (March 12, 2019) – A second straight complete-game shutout against a regionally ranked opponent earned Oklahoma Christian's
Gabe Rodery the Heartland Conference's baseball pitcher of the week award for a second straight week.
Rodery, a junior left-hander from Verdigris, outdueled Arkansas-Fort Smith ace Javon Rigsby as OC edged South Central Region No. 10 UAFS 1-0 on Friday. Rodery allowed only three hits, striking out seven batters and walking none. Only one UAFS runner advanced as far as third base and Rodery retired 12 batters in a row to end the game.
He extended his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings, most of that coming in wins over regionally ranked foes UAFS and Rogers State. Rodery's 1.16 ERA this season is tops among Heartland pitchers who have thrown at least 20 innings.
Last week, in addition to the Heartland weekly award, Rodery also was named as the NCAA Division II South Central Region pitcher of the week. As this week's Heartland award winner, he again will be nominated for that award.
