GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 18, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian's fast start to the baseball season earned the Eagles recognition Monday as they debuted in the South Central Region poll produced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

At 6-1, OC checked in at No. 7 in the first regular-season poll after not receiving any votes during the preseason poll. Three sports information directors from each of the three leagues that make up the NCAA Division II region – the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences – vote in the poll.

OC owns wins this season over a pair of teams – Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist – that made last year's Division II tournament.

West Texas A&M (11-1) led the poll, receiving seven first-place votes and 88 points. Colorado Mesa (7-1) received the other two first-place votes and was second with 82 points. Region newcomer Dixie State (Utah) (6-2) was third with 55 points, followed by Lubbock Christian (Texas) (7-3) with 48 points and Colorado-Colorado Springs (7-3) with 40 points.

Angelo State (Texas) (7-4) was No. 6 with 38 points, followed by OC with 37 points, St. Edward's (Texas) (7-2) with 31 points, Colorado Mines (2-2) with 25 points and Texas A&M-Kingsville (5-4) with 23 points. A&M-Kingsville, the preseason regional No. 1 team, dealt OC its only loss of the season so far.

Receiving votes in the poll were Rogers State, St. Mary's (Texas), Texas-Permian Basin, Colorado State-Pueblo and Arkansas-Fort Smith.

The Eagles' game at Southwestern Oklahoma State scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed due to the weather forecast. OC's home opener also has been pushed back a day and now will be against Cameron at 3 p.m. Friday, OC coach Lonny Cobble said.
