INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 17, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian's women moved up slightly on Sunday to finish 41st in the Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl, the final Tier I tournament of the U.S. Bowling Congress' collegiate season.
The Eagles – a late entry into the field – began the day in 45th place among 66 squads and dropped two spots after the first set of five Baker games. But they rebounded to move up to 43rd after the second Baker set and jumped two more spots after the last Baker set.
OC finished with a two-day score of 7,541. Pikeville (Ky.) led the qualifying with a score of 8,769 pins.
In six individual games on Saturday, sophomore
Melissa McConnell of Canton, Ga., led OC, finishing 80th among 477 players with a score of 1,079. She rolled the Eagles' two highest games, a 230 in the opening game and a 224 in the fourth game.
Freshman
Taylore Ryan of Allen, Texas, placed 125th with a score of 1,013, rolling a high game of 194. Freshman
Kaitlyn Esquer of Lawton was 139th at 982, with a high game of 198. Hailey Schanaman, a freshman from Scottsbluff, Neb., also bowled all six games for the Eagles, posting a score of 936, good for 173rd place. Her high game was a 177.
"The ladies struggled all weekend long with shot execution," OC coach
James Hayes said. "Our spare shooting was just not there. We have lots to work on if we are going to be competitive going into sectionals."
OC's bowling teams will learn Wednesday if they have been selected to compete in the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier, set for March 8-10 at USA Bowl in Dallas. Both of OC's squads are expected to receive invitations.
