Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY (April 19, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian managed only 11 hits and three runs in 16 innings as the Eagles dropped both games of a doubleheader to St. Edward's (Texas) on Thursday, losing 8-0 and 5-3 at Dobson Field.
In what has become a logjam in the Heartland Conference baseball standings, OC (19-20, 8-10 Heartland) slipped a spot into a tie for fifth, while St. Edward's (22-17, 10-8) moved up a spot into a tie for third. The top four teams qualify for the league's postseason tournament.
In the opener, St. Edward's starter Blake Holub (4-3) tossed a three-hit shutout, outdueling OC right-hander
Connor Litterell (2-1), who gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings of work to keep the Eagles close.
The Hilltoppers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Derek Ramos' RBI single, made it 3-0 in the fifth when Holub – who also served as his team's designated hitter – smacked a two-run double and blew the game open with a five-run seventh. T.J. Giselbach and Matthew Jimenez each had a two-run single during that outburst.
St. Edward's quickly jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings in the second game against OC starter
Skyler Martin (4-4), three of those runs coming on Giselbach's first-inning home run.
The Eagles finally got on the board in the sixth.
Jake Collins hit a one-out single and
Ryan Ward followed with a double down the left-field line.
Chad Kennedy's groundout scored Collins and
Kolton Brown homered off St. Edward's starter Trent Rosenauer (2-0) to pull the Eagles with 4-3.
But St. Edward's reliever Jake Davis entered after Brown's homer and held OC hitless the rest of the way to record his fourth save of the season.
The teams will play another doubleheader on Friday, starting at noon.
