OKLAHOMA CITY (April 16, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian will hold a formal dedication ceremony at Max and Ramona Dobson Field before Tuesday night's baseball game against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The ceremony will start at 5:10 p.m. and will celebrate both the improvements made to the facility for the 2018 season as well as the considerable legacy of the Dobsons. Max Dobson taught at OC from 1966 through 2013, serving at various times as the baseball coach, women's basketball coach, athletic director and chairman of the physical education department.
In 1976, he began a class called "Teaching the Exceptional Child." Dobson estimates that since then, at least 3,000 OC students have taken the class and assisted in his efforts to aid special-needs children. To this day, the class is held in The Barn on OC's campus every Wednesday and Friday during the academic year.
As the baseball coach from 1967 to 1980, Dobson posted a record of 280-194. He guided the Eagles to the NAIA Area III title and a third-place finish at the NAIA World Series in 1972. His .591 winning percentage is the highest by any coach in OC baseball history.
He went 173-80 (a .683 winning percentage) in eight seasons as OC's women's basketball coach, building that program from scratch before handing the reins to current coach
Stephanie Findley.
Dobson Field has served as the home of OC baseball since the university revived the program for the 2008 season. Improvements added at the field for this season include a new concession stand, restrooms, press box and landscaping, as well as a plaque honoring Max and Ramona Dobson at the entrance.
Among those participating in the ceremony will be Max Dobson; his son Todd Dobson, a member of the OC Board of Trustees; OC President John deSteiguer; OC baseball coach
Lonny Cobble; and OC baseball senior
Garett Hill.
The Eagles' game against Southwestern will start at 6 p.m.
