Box Score GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Feb. 3, 2018) – Just after it looked like Oklahoma Christian would pull off the comeback win on Saturday, Washburn (Kan.) stole it right back from the Eagles.
Washburn scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning – two on a home run by Brady Hoover – and the Ichabods stunned OC 8-6 in the AirHogs Classic at AirHogs Stadium.
Josh Crosby hit a pair of solo home runs for Washburn (2-1) and OC (1-2) trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring three times, with two runs coming home on a double to left field by
Kolton Brown.
OC took a 5-4 lead in the seventh, tying the game on a single by
Chad Kennedy, then going ahead when
Jake Collins drew a bases-loaded walk. The Eagles made it 6-4 in the eighth when
Brice Smith singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Washburn reliever Braden Larkey (1-0).
OC reliever
Matthew Fusselman (0-1) entered the game with two outs in the seventh and had retired five straight batters before Daniel Reilly singled down the right-field line. That opened the floodgates for the Ichabods, who quickly loaded the bases. Cole Emerson scored on a wild pitch and a groundout by Javis Larson scored Darian Abram with the tying run.
Hoover followed with his home run to put Washburn back ahead. Washburn closer Zach Linquist retired the Eagles in order in the bottom of the ninth to record his first save of the baseball season.
Kennedy recorded his third straight multi-hit game for the Eagles, going 2 for 5, and Brown and Collins each added two hits for OC.
OC will wrap up play in the season-opening event on Sunday, facing No. 24-ranked Angelo State (Texas) at 4 p.m.
