Box Score DURANT, Okla. (March 21, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the second inning, propelling the Eagles to a 15-9 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.
Ten Eagles had at least one hit, with sophomore
Josh Garbrecht leading the way with three and freshman
Gabe Rodery adding two, including an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning. The win against a usually strong Southeastern squad snapped a four-game losing streak for OC (14-14).
OC seized control early against Southeastern (5-17-1) with the huge second inning, during which the Eagles faced three Savage Storm pitchers. Southeastern starter Tristen Wood (0-3) recorded only four outs before giving way to Jake Patterson, who didn't retire any of the four OC batters he faced.
During the inning, Garbrecht,
Zac Bycko and
Isaac Holt each had run-scoring hits and Bycko added a RBI walk in his second plate appearance.
OC added another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth on Rodery's first career home run, a blast to center field that also scored
Chase Kuwitzky, who had reached on an error – one of six defensive miscues by the Savage Storm.
Southeastern rallied with a five-run sixth, but OC took advantage of three more errors to score twice in the seventh to rebuild its lead to 14-5.
OC starter
Kolton Brown (3-3) allowed only three hits and didn't walk anyone while striking out four batters in five innings.
OC now is 6-3 this season in nonconference games against Great American Conference foes, having faced Southern Arkansas, East Central, Oklahoma Baptist, Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene as well as Southeastern. OC has four games against GAC foes remaining.
The Eagles will return to Heartland Conference action on Friday and Saturday, hosting Texas A&M International in a three-game series. First pitch on Friday will be at 1 p.m.
