Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (March 1, 2017) – This time, Oklahoma Christian didn't have enough left in its rally tank to make it all the way back.
OC cut an eight-run seven-inning deficit to three, but Central Oklahoma answered and held on for a 12-8 win on Wednesday afternoon at Dobson Field.
OC (8-8) struggled all day to come up with hits with runners on base, stranding 13 men and leaving the bases loaded twice against UCO (10-2). Even so, the Eagles made things interesting after UCO built a 10-2 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles scored five times, with
Jake Baxter smashing an RBI double to center field,
Chase Kuwitzky contributing a two-run single and
Garrett Wages also hitting a run-scoring single.
But the Bronchos – who scored in every inning but the first – answered with a run in the eighth and another in the ninth, after OC also scored in the bottom of the eighth. UCO rolled up 18 hits against six OC pitchers, led by Jake Dyer (4-for-5, three RBIs), Jon Kamies (3-for-4, three RBIs), Caleb Peters (3-for-4) and Anthony Alvarez (3-for-4, three RBIs).
Cory Duran went 3-for-4 to lead OC, while
Lane Paul,
Jake Baxter, Kuwitzky and Wages each had two hits for the Eagles.
OC starter
Kolton Brown (2-2) took the pitching loss, while UCO starter Jaycee Parker (2-0) earned the win.
OC will return to action this weekend, hosting NAIA foe Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The teams will play a single game at 2 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
