Box Score GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Feb. 3, 2017) – As successful as Oklahoma Christian was offensively in its baseball season opener on Thursday, it was equally as frustrated on Friday against Washburn (Kan.).
Washburn senior right-hander Lance Barkley limited the Eagles to four hits in eight innings to lead the Ichabods to a 4-1 win on the second day of the AirHogs Division II Classic at AirHogs Stadium.
OC (1-1) rolled up 15 runs in its opener against Missouri Western, but only advanced two runners as far as third base during the first seven innings against Washburn (2-0). Maybe the Eagles' best chance to score early came in the first inning, when
Zach Morrow tried to score from second base on a single to left field by
Chad Kennedy but was thrown out at home.
OC starter
Dylan Fazekas (0-1) also pitched well, allowing three hits and one run in five innings. The Ichabods' only run off the hard-throwing senior right-hander came in the first, when Darian Abram led off with a double, took third base on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball.
Washburn held that 1-0 lead until the seventh inning, when the Ichabods made it 3-0. The big blow in the inning was a run-scoring triple by Riley Krane off OC reliever
Matthew Fusselman.
The Ichabods scored once in the top of the eighth off OC reliever
Garett Hill before the Eagles picked up their only run in the bottom of the inning, when
Jared Price tripled to right-center off Barkley (1-0) and scored on a groundout by Morrow.
OC will play Southern Arkansas on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the event, which is being played at the site of the 2017 NCAA Division II Championship in late May.
