With 26 hits, Eagles roll to doubleheader sweep at Rogers State

Robert Rosser had two doubles, one with the bases loaded, in the second game of OC's sweep at Rogers State on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLAREMORE, Okla. (March 19, 2016) – For the second time in as many Heartland Conference baseball series, Oklahoma Christian has opened with a doubleheader sweep.

The Eagles pounded out 26 hits and received strong pitching performances from Bradley Horn and Brennan Walker to roll past Rogers State 6-1 and 9-3 at the Diamond Sports Complex, clinching a series win for OC against a squad coming off a series win at league power St. Mary's (Texas).

OC (12-10, 4-1 Heartland) ended the day in second place in the Heartland, one game behind Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Eagles and Rogers State (15-8, 2-3) will complete their weather-delayed series on Sunday afternoon.

The Hillcats have lost four straight after starting the season 15-4. Before Saturday, they hadn't been swept in a doubleheader all season.

In the opener, the offensive production came from the bottom of the OC lineup, as the Eagles' No. 6-9 batters – Alex Polston, Ben McKenzie, Lane Paul and Zac Cobble – had two hits each, combining for eight of their team's nine hits.

Paul had three RBIs, with one each coming on singles in the sixth and seventh innings as the Eagles broke open a close game.

Horn (4-1) posted his second straight strong outing against a Heartland foe, going the distance and allowing seven hits with only one walk. The Hillcats' only run came in the fourth, on a single to right field by Ismael Orozco. Horn wriggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, coaxing a two-out ground ball from Caleb Kohlmeyer to end the threat.

Rogers State starter Blake Roley (4-1) took the loss, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings.

Every OC starter had at least one hit in the second game, with Polston going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a massive home run to deep center field. Robert Rosser went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one of them with the bases loaded that scored three runs during a four-run outburst in the sixth inning that broke open the game for the Eagles.

OC junior Jake Baxter, the conference's home run leader, hit his 10th of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning off Rogers State starter Tyler Kruse (2-2). Jared Sterling, Kyle Lacy and Cobble each had two hits for the Eagles.

Orozco hit a solo home run for the Hillcats in the second inning, but otherwise Walker (2-1) pitched effectively, allowing only five hits in six innings. Chris Miguel hit a two-run homer in the eighth to pull the Hillcats within 9-3, but that was the Hillcats' final hit.
