Box Score 2 ALVA, Okla. (March 1, 2016) –
Jake Baxter's two-run homer in the sixth inning and a run-scoring single by
Jared Sterling in the seventh proved critical as Oklahoma Christian rallied from a three-run deficit to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 5-4 on Tuesday and finish a doubleheader sweep.
OC rolled past the Rangers 7-1 in the opener at Myers Stadium, giving the Eagles their second road sweep of the young baseball season. OC won a doubleheader at Texas A&M-Kingsville during the campaign's opening weekend.
OC (8-8) took a 1-0 lead in the second game on a solo home run by
Ben McKenzie in the second inning, but Northwestern (6-10) jumped on OC reliever
Garett Hill for five hits and four runs in the fourth inning, with the big blow a bases-loaded triple by Jeremy Smith.
Baxter's home run in the sixth pulled the Eagles within 4-3. Brody Ausfahl (1-2) entered in relief for the Rangers in the seventh, but OC's
Brady Baugh and
Zac Cobble greeted him with singles and Stetson Buller replaced Ausfahl on the mound for Northwestern.
A passed ball moved Baugh to third base and Cobble to second before Sterling's single through the right side tied the game. Two outs later, with the bases loaded, another passed ball by Northwestern catcher Cole Anderson allowed Cobble to score to put OC up 5-4.
OC reliever
Dylan Fazekas allowed only a single in the bottom of the seventh to post his third save of the season.
Jared Price (1-0) picked up the pitching win with two innings of no-hit relief for the Eagles.
In the first game, OC knocked out Northwestern starter Walker Wharton (2-2) with a five-run third-inning outburst that included four hits and two errors by the Rangers, one of which allowed three OC baserunners to score.
Robert Rosser had OC's only RBI in the inning on a double to left-center field.
The Eagles added two runs in the fourth, one on a run-scoring single to center field by
Derek Jones. Northwestern's only run against OC starter
Brennan Walker (1-1) came on a solo home run by Matt Benn in the fourth inning.
Walker, a senior right-hander from Oklahoma City, pitched his first career complete game, allowing four hits, striking out three and walking one.
The Eagles will be off until next Tuesday, when they will host Southeastern Oklahoma State.
