Box Score 2 CANYON, Texas (Feb. 27, 2016) –
Derek Jones,
Kyle Lacy and
Robert Rosser paced Oklahoma Christian's 19-hit attack as the Eagles beat No. 19-ranked West Texas A&M 18-6 at Wilder Park on Saturday afternoon to earn a split of a doubleheader.
West Texas A&M won the first game 13-12, scoring twice in the bottom of the eighth inning after OC had rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings.
In the second game, Jones went 4-for-4 and scored four times for OC (6-8), while Lacy went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and four RBIs and Rosser went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBIs, doubling twice and tripling once.
OC led 5-2 before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning against West Texas A&M starter Brooks Trujillo (3-1), with Rosser hitting a two-run double and
Jake Baxter following with a two-run homer off reliever Elliot King.
The Eagles added six more runs in the sixth, with Rosser capping the outburst with a two-run triple to center field.
OC starter
Jared Sterling (1-1) went the distance, allowing seven hits in seven innings of work as the Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak.
West Texas A&M (11-3) led the first game 8-3 after four innings, but the Eagles scored four runs in the fifth inning (three on a home run by
Ben McKenzie) and four more in the sixth (three on a homer by Baxter) to go up 11-8.
The Buffaloes tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. OC eased back ahead 12-11 in the top of the eighth, as
Austin Orth's sacrifice fly scored Baxter, who had walked. But the Buffaloes tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single to center field by Jake Fuller and won when Trace Hansen singled to right field off OC reliever
Dylan Fazekas (0-2), scoring Fuller.
Tinius (3-0) picked up the win after throwing 2/3 of an inning of relief for West Texas A&M.
The Eagles will play a doubleheader on Tuesday at Northwestern Oklahoma State, starting at 3 p.m.
