Box Score SHAWNEE, Okla. (Feb. 16, 2016) – Four Oklahoma Christian pitchers combined to allow only four Oklahoma Baptist hits, but the Eagles managed only six themselves in dropping a 3-2 decision to OBU on Tuesday afternoon at Bison Field.
Neither team had a hit any longer than a single, but Oklahoma Baptist (7-1) made the most of its opportunities. Brandon Cuddy's RBI single in the first scored Dustyn Cook, who had walked, to put the Bison up 1-0.
OBU scored twice in the fourth inning against OC starter
Brennan Walker (0-1), on an RBI single up the middle by Hunter Heath and a sacrifice fly by Cody Ziegler. OC relievers
Jake Moore,
Garett Hill and
Dylon Sturges combined to limit the Bison to one hit over their final innings at the plate.
OC (4-4) scored both its runs in the fifth.
Zac Cobble's two-out single to center field scored
Jared Sterling and
Ben McKenzie, but OBU's catcher, Ziegler threw out Cobble trying to steal second base, ending the Eagles' threat.
The Eagles also threatened in the ninth, as
Derek Jones walked and was sacrificed by second by
Austin Orth. But Cook, OBU's shortstop, snared a liner from Sterling and turned an unassisted double play to end the game.
OBU starter Chad Bennett (1-1) allowed five hits in seven innings to pick up the pitching win.
OC will play its home opener on Friday against Northwest Missouri State and will face the Bearcats again on Saturday and Sunday.
