Box Score ADA, Okla. (April 1, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian keeps finding ways to rally and win baseball games on the road. The Eagles did it again Tuesday at Tiger Field against East Central.
Down by four runs early, OC came back to take the lead, and when pushed to extra innings by the Tigers, the Eagles delivered, with Caden Cleveland's RBI single in the top of the 11th lifting OC to an 8-7 win.
ECU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 11th, but OC reliever Dylon Sturges (1-2) – the seventh pitcher used by the Eagles – coaxed a double-play grounder from Dustin Torres to end the game.
ECU (20-14) jumped on OC starter Kacy Cook for four runs in the first inning and led 5-1 through four innings before OC (19-10) took the lead with a big inning of its own against East Central starter Robert Buitrago, scoring five runs on six hits. Caleb Price and Cameron Keener each had a run-scoring single during the rally and Blake Stringer added a two-run double.
OC extended its lead to 7-5 with a run in the sixth, but the Tigers answered with one in the seventh and another in the eighth to tie the game and force extra innings.
In the 11th, Markus Carr walked with one out and stole second base. With two outs, Cleveland singled to center field to bring home Carr and give the Eagles the lead.
Reliever Merrick Ardoin (2-1), who threw the final three innings, took the pitching loss for East Central.
Sean Murphy led OC offensively, going 3-for-4, while Price, Stringer, Cleveland, Garrett Stephenson and Zac Cobble each had a pair of hits for the Eagles.
OC, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II South Central Region, will return to action on Friday, when they host Heartland Conference rival Newman (Kan.).
