OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 24, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 66-45 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State in the Eagles' Nest on Monday night.

The Lady Eagles started out slow, as NWOSU ran out to a 5-0 lead by the 16:55 mark.

Lisa Chenoweth finally got Lady Eagles on the board when she pulled down an offensive rebound and was fouled while scoring on the putback. Chenoweth made her free throw to make the score 5-3.

Both teams had trouble scoring during most of the first half, with neither team breaking into double digits until the 10:23 mark.

The Lady Eagles' lead was 9-8 when Katy Clift hit a three-point basket to spark a 10-0 run. Charlotte Heron then hit two free throws at the end of the period to make the score 27-18 at the half.

The first half was a defensive struggle with the Lady Eagles shooting 31 percent from the field and 33 percent from the three-point line. The Lady Eagles' bright spot was an 11-for-12 effort from the foul line.

On defense, the Lady Eagles held NWOSU to 30 percent shooting from the floor and only 10 percent from the three-point stripe.

Autumn Klugh and D'Shanna Butler of NWOSU cut the Lady Eagles' lead to three points early in the second half by both hitting three-point baskets to make the score 27-24.

The Lady Eagles answered back by getting six-straight points from Lindsey Gipson to build their lead back up to nine points.

It was a back-and-forth battle for much of the second half, with both teams trading buckets.

NWOSU cut the Lady Eagles' lead to one point at the 10:48 mark when Emily Gilbert sank two free throws to make the score 40-39.

But Chenoweth drained a three-point basket with 10 minutes to go to spark another Lady Eagle run. The team finished out the game on a 26-6 rally to result in the 66-45 score.

Gipson dominated the second half, scoring 17 of her game-high 23 points in the period. The senior guard hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and shot 50 percent from three-point distance.

Chenoweth added 11 points and Hillary Duncan posted 10 points to help the Lady Eagles to their first conference win of the season.

The win moves the Lady Eagles record to 6-0 on the season. The team will return to action on Nov. 28 in the San Antonio shootout hosted by Trinity University.
