OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 12, 2009) – The Lady Eagles fell short in their quest to get back on the winning track with a 57-42 loss to No. 8 Lubbock Christian University (Texas) in the Eagles' Nest on Thursday.
Oklahoma Christian has now lost its last five games to fall to 13-12 overall and 6-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Lady Eagles came out cold from the field as LCU ran out to a 6-0 lead. Katy Clift broke the scoring drought when Kelsey Kniffin found her for a three pointer to make the score 6-3.
That was as close as the score would get for the remainder of first half though, as LCU outscored the Lady Eagles 27-15 in the opening stanza.
Neither team shot particularly well from the field in the first half. The Lady Eagles shot 17 percent from the floor, while LCU shot 33 percent.
Clift led the Eagles at the half with six points, while Charlotte Heron added four.
Lindsey Gipson started the second half for the Lady Eagles when she picked up an old-fashion three-point play.
Then Brittney Kennedy and Kailan DeCamp followed with back-to-back buckets forcing LCU to take a timeout, and suddenly the Lady Eagles had cut the lead to five points.
The Lady Eagles got within five points three different times in the final period, but on each occasion LCU made a run to rebuild its lead.
DeCamp cut the LCU lead to five a final time when she hit a shot at the 6:05 mark, but the Lady Eagles could not get over the hump.
DeCamp lead the Lady Eagles with 10 points and three assists, Clift chipped in nine points and Heron added seven points.
The Lady Eagles gave up 12 second-chance points on the night and were outrebounded by 15.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 13-12 overall and 6-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they will take on Wayland Baptist University (Texas).
