EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 13, 2010) – The Lady Eagles tennis squad came away with two overpowering wins on Saturday against NCAA division II schools at the Oak Tree Intercollegiate Indoor Invitational.
To start off the day, the Lady Eagles’ squad took on the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
In singles competition, Olfa Dhaoui pulled off two 6-3 sets against UAFS’s Emily Singleton.
OC’s Maja Vuzem lost the first set 1-6 before coming back with two close 7-5, 10-7 victories to clinch the win over Cara Gilham.
Maja Plavsic of OC defeated Abby Whittemore 6-4, 6-1 and Andreea Contantinescu beat out Stanka Haranova of UAFS 6-0, 7-6.
Leila Keihani dropped a 3-6, 1-6 match against UAFS’s Tamra Bryson prior to OC’s Vimbai Mawisire defeated Charlotte Dalvaux 6-2, 6-1.
For doubles, Vuzem and Plavsic teamed to take away an 8-5 victory while Dhaoui and Contantinescu played to an 8-4 win. Keihani and Mawisire picked up the last doubles win with an 8-6 victory.
On Saturday night, the Lady Eagles met East Central University head to head to claim a 9-0 team victory.
Dhaoui defeated ECU’s Julia Arguello 6-4, 6-3 and Vuzem again followed to pull out a 7-5, 6-3 two set victory over Marta Valles. Plavsic had no problem handling ECU’s Rhiannon Mecanovic with two 6-0 sets. Contantinescu utilized two 6-3 sets to beat out Nilsa Ramirez and Keihani bounced back with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Kendra Coltrain.
OC’s Mawisire finished out singles play for the Lady Eagles with 6-0, 6-1 sets to beat Kristen Clubb.
The Lady Eagles squad utilized the same doubles partners to pull out 8-5, 8-1, and 8-2 victories and finish off the match with a 9-0 swipe of ECU.
The Lady Eagles will head to the road to face Harding University (Ark.) on Friday.
