SKILLMAN, N.J. (July 6, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian sophomore Bruno Tiberti was named Friday to the 29th Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Star Team, which features the nation’s top-ranked players and national champions from the 2011-12 season.

Tiberti, from Buenos Aires, ended the spring season at No. 1 in the NAIA in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings after helping the Eagles win the program’s second NAIA title. He was named as the Ward-Ballinger Outstanding Player of the NAIA Championship.

In the decisive match of the title match against No. 3-ranked Xavier Smith of Fresno Pacific (Calif.), Tiberti rallied from deficits of 5-2 in the second set and 4-1 in the third set to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, giving the Eagles a 5-4 team victory. In the semifinals, Tiberti beat No. 2-ranked Chris Freeman of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in three sets, his second win over Freeman in three matches during the 2011-12 school year.

Tiberti went 15-4 this season, along with a 17-6 doubles mark.

The ITA All-Star Team includes representatives from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Those chosen for the team will be treated by the ITA and the U.S. Tennis Association to a weekend in New York, highlighted by activities during Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Aug. 25.

The group will be honored at the annual ITA awards luncheon, hosted by the USTA in the President’s Dining Room Suite.
