OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 27, 2012) – After posting three straight road wins over Heartland Conference foes, Oklahoma Christian might have expected a bit of an easier time on Thursday night against league opponent Dallas Baptist (Texas).
Instead, OC got outplayed most of the night and saw its four-game winning streak end in embarrassing fashion with a 3-0 loss to the visitors on a field waterlogged due to heavy rain that fell late Monday and most of the day Tuesday.
DBU (2-4) took an early lead and kept the pressure on most of the night in a game that featured six yellow cards as well as a red card in the 73rd minute against OC midfielder Domenico DeGrazia, which means the Eagles' leading scorer will miss a home game Saturday against conference foe St. Edward's (Texas).
David Balyeat scored the Patriots' first two goals against OC (4-3). The first, in the 16th minute, came off a throw-in, and the second was a penalty kick awarded to DBU in the 56th minute after OC's Cion Samuel was called for a hand ball in the penalty box.
DBU sealed the win in the 71st minute on a bending 35-yard blast by Leevi Schwartz. The Patriots outshot OC 20-12.
OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer, the reigning Heartland Conference defensive player of the week, made three saves, while DBU's Chuck Schober had seven saves.
