ALVA, Okla. (Feb. 21, 2009) - The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fell 7-1 and 13-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The Eagles are now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. Oklahoma Christian returns to the diamond on Monday in a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against Bacone College (Okla.).
OC had 13 hits in Saturday's second game at Northwestern, but the Rangers combined to score 12 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the sweep.
The Eagles scored first in the nightcap when David Garner singled home Chance Nichols in the second inning. OC upped its lead to 2-0 when Josh Balch came home on a double-steal play.
NWOSU cut the lead to 2-1 in the third frame, then OC added to its cushion with two more runs in the fourth.
Jordan Price touched home on an error, then Jeff Davis cranked a double to right center that plated Ray Long to make it 4-1 Eagles.
But the Rangers bats came alive over the next two innings. NWOSU pounded out 11 hits and capitalized on two OC errors to take a 13-6 lead.
The Eagles sandwiched a two-run effort in between the Rangers' big innings. Garner doubled in Nichols, and Price hit a RBI two-bagger that plated Jay White.
It wasn't enough though as NWOSU improved to 3-5 on the year, and 2-1 in the SAC.
White went 3-for-4 in the second game with Price (2-for-3), Balch (2-for-3) and Garner (2-for-3) also adding multi-hit efforts. Riley Jones (1-1) suffered the loss in relief after surrendering four runs (two earned) in an inning of work.
The first game was all NWOSU, as the Rangers rode the momentum of a two-run first inning to their first win over OC in the Eagles' new baseball era.
OC's lone score of the game was a second-inning Nichols run via a NWOSU error.
Davis and Nichols were each 2-for-3 in the opener, and five Eagles recorded a hit in the loss.
Ryan Kirk (0-1) gave up seven runs (five earned) in 6.0 innings of work to take the loss. The left-hander struck out four and walked three.
