Lady Eagles fall at No. 5 OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. (Jan. 31, 2009) – Oklahoma Christian University dropped a hard-fought 70-58 decision at No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday night in Shawnee.

The win for Oklahoma Baptist avenged Oklahoma Christian's 65-60 win in December. The Lady Eagles fell to 13-8 overall and 6-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while the Lady Bison jumped to 18-2 and 12-1 with their 11th-straight victory.

Three Lady Eagles scored in double figures led by Brittney Kennedy's 15 points. Kailan DeCamp dropped 11 points and three steals, while Haley Myers had 10 points and three steals as well.

After OBU went on a 12-2 run to start the game, the Lady Eagles responded with an 18-3 spurt of their own to take the lead. Kennedy scored nine points in the push, and she put OC on top 18-15 with an old-fashioned three-point play at the 9:25 mark.

The Lady Eagles held two five-point leads in the half before the Lady Bison reclaimed the edge (29-28) on two Afeisha Noel foul shots. OC didn't score in the last 3:28 of the half, and OBU led 36-30 at intermission.

The Lady Bison capitalized on 20 first-half free-throws tries by making 16. OC hit 6-of-8 foul shots, and 11-of-24 first-half field goals for 46-percent shooting. Kennedy led OC with nine points at intermission.

The teams played even for the first five minutes of the second period (38-44), and the Lady Eagles pulled within four points (40-44) when Charlotte Heron scored inside with 14 minutes left.

But OBU went back up by double digits at 52-41 by the 11:08 mark.

Hillary Duncan kept OC close with six-straight points from the 8:28 to 6:54 marks. The Tulsa, Okla., native's last basket got the Lady Eagles within 57-49.

It was an eight-point game (63-55) again when Kennedy made two free shots with 2:18 to play. OC then cut it to seven (64-57) with two Duncan charity tosses with 52 seconds left, but the Lady Bison made 4-of-6 foul shots in the closing 30 seconds to seal it.

OBU hit 32-of-42 free throws in the game for 76 percent. OC finished the game 20-of-42 from the field (48 percent), 3-of-7 from three-point range (43 percent) and 15-of-23 from the line (65 percent).

Duncan charted nine points and four rebounds, while Lindsey Gipson and Heron added five points apiece.

OC resumes play on Tuesday night when they travel to Alva, Okla., to tangle with Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.
