Duncan's career night not enough at NWOSU

ALVA, Okla. (Feb. 3, 2009) – Oklahoma Christian University couldn't get past Northwestern Oklahoma State University on the road Tuesday night as the Lady Eagles' 18-game win streak against the Lady Rangers came to an end in a 67-58 Northwestern win.

Oklahoma Christian junior Hillary Duncan turned in the best scoring performance of her career, with 18 points to go with five rebounds. She broke her previous career high of 17, which came at Lubbock Christian (Texas) last month.

Brittney Kennedy posted her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She was 4-of-9 from the field, and 2-of-2 at the foul line.

The loss takes OC to 13-9 overall and 6-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. NWOSU moved to 9-11 and 4-10 with the win.

OC started the game on a 10-3 run behind four points from Duncan and two apiece from Kennedy, Kailan DeCamp and Lisa Chenoweth. But the Lady Eagles couldn't build a lead past seven points, and the Lady Rangers slowly began to chip away at the deficit.

NWOSU finally got even when D'Shanna Butler hit a three pointer to lock it at 15-15 with 5:29 left until the break. The score was part of a 17-5 NWOSU run, and the Lady Rangers led by as many as six points (25-19) in the half, and never trailed again on the night.

Kennedy scored the final points of the half – a post score off the backboard with 1:55 showing – and the Lady Eagles went to the locker room down 25-21.

NWOSU's lead never grew past nine points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and when Kelsey Kniffin and Duncan buried treys on consecutive OC possessions, the Lady Eagles were with two points at 40-38. OC then tied it at 40-40 thanks to an interior bucket from Chenoweth (9:04).

Then Autumn Klugh hit three pointers on two-straight NWOSU possessions to give the home team a 46-40 lead by the 8:06 mark.

OC fought back within two points (46-44) again at the 6:43 mark when Kennedy swished a baseline jumper.

The Lady Rangers then scored six-straight points to go up 52-44 by the 4:47 point.

Katy Clift knocked down two threes, and Duncan hit another bomb, in the final 1:39 for OC to keep it interesting. But NWOSU made good on 10-of-12 free-throw attempts in the closing 1:33 to get its first win over OC since the 1993-94 season.

Chenowth scored nine points and dished out five assists, while Kniffin had eight points and Clift chipped in six.

Butler led NWOSU with 20 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Lady Eagles can get back in the win column on Thursday night when they travel to Rogers State (Okla.). Tip time at the Claremore Expo Center is set for 6 p.m.
