OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (1-5-08) – Oklahoma Christian fell 96-41 to No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The loss dropped OC to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in SAC play. OBU remained unblemished at 13-0 overall and 5-0 in league action.
OC took the contest's first lead Saturday and did not trail until the 13:55 mark. The Lady Eagles took four four-point leads, but never led by any more.
An Ashley Gamble three pointer gave the Lady Bison their first advantage at the 13:55 mark. The score ignited a 19-3 run that put OBU up 31-16 by the 7:05 point.
OBU went on to shoot 64 percent (16-25) from the field in the opening stanza. The Lady Bison were 7-of-13 (54 percent) from beyond the arc in the half and led 47-23 at the break.
OBU's hot-shooting night continued into the second half. After Kailan DeCamp opened the half with a driving score for OC, OBU went on a 17-3 tear.
The Lady Eagles shot just 19 percent (5-26) from the field in the second half. The Lady Bison shot an even 50 percent (18-36) from the field en route to the 96-41 victory.
OBU finished the game 34-of-61 (56 percent) from the field and 14-of-26 (54 percent) from three-point range.Â
DeCamp led the Lady Eagles with 13 points. Haley Myers added 12 points and five rebounds.
OBU had five players reach double figures with Jennifer Jupin's 17 leading the way.
The 55-point loss was the largest margin of defeat in Lady Eagle history. The previous record was a 97-50 (47 points) loss to Phillips (Okla.) in 1977-78.
OC heads to Texas next week for a pair of doubleheaders. The Eagles and Lady Eagles play Lubbock Christian on Jan. 10 before taking on Wayland Baptist on Jan. 12.
