CHICKASHA, Okla. (Oct. 14, 2008) – Two second-half goals were too much for the Oklahoma Christian University men's soccer team in a 2-0 defeat at Science and Arts of Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon.
The setback takes the Eagles to 4-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The team will look to rebound on Saturday night at home against cross-city rival – and fourth-ranked – Oklahoma City. The Stars sit atop the SAC with a 12-1 overall mark and 4-0 SAC record.
Tuesday's game saw OC and USAO battle to a scoreless draw at halftime. Eagle goalkeeper Bryan Cochrum snatched six first-half saves, while the Drovers' Ricardo Moreira grabbed three.
Just over 12 minutes into the second half, USAO broke the scoreless action when Antonio Junior scored an unassisted goal to make it 1-0.
In the game's 64th minute, Daniel Gibson upped the Drovers' edge to 2-0 with another unassisted score.
The Eagles got seven shots off in the second stanza, but none found the net. USAO improved to 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 in the SAC with the victory.
Neil Hilton fired seven shots, four coming on goal, in the game to lead OC. Cristian Fernandes sent one shot on goal netward, while Andy Lopez and Preston Okwuonu had one shot apiece.
The result evens the all-time series between OC and USAO 10-10-1.
The women's game was forced to be rescheduled after the Lady Eagles had travel problems on the way to Chickasha. No make-up date has been determined. The squad will play Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
