PARKVILLE, Mo. (September 6, 2008) – Two overtimes were not enough for either the Oklahoma Christian University men's or women's soccer teams to break tie scores on Saturday at Park University (Mo.).
The men's team battled 13th-ranked Park to a 1-1 draw, while the Lady Eagles tied the Lady Pirates 2-2. Both games went into double overtime with neither team finding the net in the extra periods.
With the results, the Eagles are now 1-0-1 on the year and the Lady Eagles are 1-2-1.
Men's game: OC – 1, Park – 1 (double overtime)
The men's contest went to the halftime break in a scoreless tie. OC finally broke the draw when Ryan Frampton took a Neil Hilton pass in the middle of the field and scored at the 55:42 mark of the second half.
The Eagle defense and goalkeeper Bryan Cochrum, who shutout Huston-Tillotson (Texas) in OC's first game, finally surrendered their first goal of the season at the 60:43 point. Park's Ramon Palmer dribbled up the left side and snuck the ball past Cochrum to make it 1-1.
Overtime saw Park outshoot OC 7-to-0, but Cochrum was up for the challenge, recording five saves and preserving the tie. The Arlington, Texas, senior finished the contest with 12 saves in 110 minutes played.
Women's game: OC – 2, Park – 2 (double overtime)
In the women's game, the Lady Eagles erased an early 1-0 deficit when Heather Spencer took a long crossing pass from Stephanie Duncan and beat Park goalkeeper Monika Stoiber one on one. The goal was the junior's second of 2008.
The 1-1 score held through intermission. Then Duncan gave OC its first lead by drawing Stoiber out of the goal and putting home her third goal of the season at 61:12.
OC's defense held Park scoreless for the next 22 minutes before Natalie Parker spoiled the victory with an 83:04 score that made it 2-2 and sent the game to overtime
Park managed four overtime shots to OC's three, but nothing came to fruition for either side. Lady Eagle keeper Lisa Jorgensen tallied two saves in extra time and had five denials for the game.
Both the men's and women's teams now prepare for their home openers this weekend.
The Eagles play Bellevue (Neb.) at 5 p.m. on Sept. 12. Then both teams welcome William Jewell (Mo.) on Sept. 13. The men's game will kickoff at 5 p.m. followed by women's action at 7 p.m. William Jewell's women's team is ranked No. 14 in the NAIA.
