OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 26, 2009) – The Eagles dropped a pair of cold and windy seven-inning games against Sooner Athletic Conference foe Mid America Christian University (Okla.) on Thursday. Losses of 7-6 and 13-9 drop Oklahoma Christian's record to 13-14 on the season and 7-10 in SAC play.
Game One
Eagle pitcher Tyler Sutton got into some trouble early, giving up three runs on three MACU hits in the bottom of the first. The inning included a double by Luke Scott that drove in two runs.
Then Jordan Price got the Eagles going at the plate with a leadoff double to left field. After Price advanced to third base on a passed ball, Ray Long drove him in on a groundout to second base.
Then in the bottom the second, the Eagles pulled even at 3-3 when David Garner doubled in Josh Balch and Quaid Johns.
After MACU put up three more runs in the third and fifth innings, the Eagles cut into the MACU lead in the bottom of the fifth when Jeff Davis homered to left to score Zac Coshow and make the score 6-5.
In the bottom the sixth the Eagles tied it up again at 6-6 when Long doubled to left-center to drive in Price.
But MACU pulled ahead in the top of the seventh. Scott scored on an Alex Webb single, and the Eagles couldn't rally in the bottom of the inning.
Sutton got the loss after pitching 4.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, and recording three strikeouts.
Davis and Long led the Eagles at the dish, both going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Quaid Johns went 3-for-4 and Coshow went 2-for-3.
Game 2
The Eagles got into a three-run hole early after allowing MACU to score runs in second, third and fourth innings to make the score 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles rallied to take the lead. Chance Nichols got things going with a leadoff triple. Cody Carpenter followed with a RBI single, and after a Price single, Justin Ebert drove in two runs with a bases-clearing triple.
Ebert finally scored on a Tyler Gipson groundout, and the Eagles took the lead 4-3.
After a six-run inning by MACU, the Eagles answered back with a three-run sixth inning.
Jay White scored first on a passed ball, then Johns scored on a Carpenter groundout to second base. Price followed with an RBI single up the middle to score Nichols to make the score 9-7.
But MACU pushed four more runs across in the top of the seventh to make the score 13-7. The Eagles scored two more times in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn't enough.
Ryan Morris pitched 5.1 innings for the Eagles, giving up seven runs on 12 hits, to go with three whiffs.
Ebert led the Eagles offensively at 1-for-3 with two RBI. Johns posted a 2-for-3 showing with an RBI.
The Eagles return to the field March 31 in Cedar Hill, Texas, for a doubleheader against Northwood University.
