Eagles drop series opener at No. 2 OCU

Box score

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 8, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian University baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game set 13-4 at No. 2 Oklahoma City University on Tuesday night.

The Eagles hit three home runs in the setback, but the Stars proved to be too much down the stretch. The loss takes Oklahoma Christian to 15-17 and 7-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and Oklahoma City moved to 37-4 and 16-3 in league play.

The game had a promising start for the Eagles, who led 2-1 after two innings. OC jumped out to a 2-0 lead when freshman Justin Ebert took OCU starter David Odquist out to left field.

The Stars got a run back in the home half, then piled on five runs in the third to go on top for good.

The Eagles scored in the fifth inning when Jordan Price smashed his sixth home run of the season, and again in the seventh when Ray Long went deep for the third time in three games. Long's shot made it a 9-4 game.

But OCU scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to squash any OC comeback hopes.

Ryan Morris (4-5) was saddled with the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) in four innings pitched. Odquist got the win to improve to 7-0.

Ebert and fellow freshman Cody Carpenter were each 1-for-3, while Price, Long and Tyler Gipson had 1-for-4 games. Ebert's homer was the first of his college career, and Long's bomb was his fifth of the season.

The series resumes on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Dobson Field. The teams will complete the set on Friday night at 7 p.m., also at Dobson Field.
