OC drops two-game set at USAO

CHICKASHA, Okla. (March 1, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian lost 18-8 and 9-8 to Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon.

The defeats moved OC to 5-8-1 on the season and 0-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Game two saw the Eagles take a 3-1 lead into the second inning.

OC plated its first run when Jeff Davis laced a double that scored Jordan Price. Josh Balch singled home Ray Long to make it 2-0, then Quaid Johns brought around Chris Burshek to up the Eagles' edge to 3-0.

USAO answered with three in the bottom of the second to grab a 4-3 advantage.

The Drovers led 7-5 through four innings, but another OC three-spot propelled the Eagles back on top in the fifth.

Price led off the frame with a double and after Ray Long drew a walk, both players moved up a bag on a wild pitch.

Davis popped up the first base before Tyler Gipson launched a three-run homer to give the Eagles an 8-7 lead.

But the scores would be OC's last. USAO plated single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to narrowly escape with a 9-8 victory.

Price was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Gipson was 1-for-2 with three RBI's.

Game one was a high-scoring hit fest that saw USAO take an 18-8 win. The teams combined for 28 hits.

The game was knotted at 1-1 after an inning, but the Drovers recorded one of two five-run innings in the second to jump out 6-1.

OC managed three in the third inning, but allowed four more USAO runs in the bottom half.

Trailing 10-4 after just three innings, the Eagles got the hot sticks and scored four runs in the top of the fourth.

Adam Richison started the charge with a one-out double to right field. Price then brought Richison and Austin Reid home with a two-RBI single through the left side.

Davis and Gipson also tallied RBI's in the inning. The Eagles trailed 10-8 when the dust cleared.

But USAO kept hitting. The Drovers notched three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then another five in the seventh to take the win.

Price was 2-for-4 with three RBI's in game two. The Eagles' leading hitter at .478, Price was 4-for-8 on the day with three RBI's and four runs scored.

Davis (2-for-4) and Gipson (2-for-4) also pounded out two hits.

OC is back on the diamond on Tuesday at Dobson Field vs. Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.). The single nine-inning game is slated for 2 p.m.
