PLAINVIEW, Texas (April 25, 2009) – Oklahoma Christian University fell 10-0 at No. 24 Wayland Baptist University (Texas) to complete a three-game series on Saturday.
The Pioneers scored in every inning but the fifth to get the seven-inning run rule. Oklahoma Christian drops to 18-25 overall and 9-17 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with the setbacks. Wayland Baptist (39-11, 18-9 SAC) scored wins of 12-8 and 8-1 on Friday.
The Eagles managed only two hits off WBU starter Todd Jeffress, who struck out 10 in the game and walked only one.
Jeffress took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before OC finally panned out two base hits. Cody Carpenter and Ray Long hit back-to-back singles with one out, and Zac Coshow was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases. But the Eagles couldn't push a run home, and WBU scored three times in the home half to ice it.
Brady Hamar started for OC and pitched 3.1 innings. The junior fell to 3-4 with seven runs (three earned) on seven hits. Long went 1-for-3 and Carpenter was 1-for-2 for the Eagles.
OC looks to finish 2009 on a high note with a three-game series against Rogers State University (Okla.) next week. The Eagles and Hillcats open the set with doubleheader in Claremore, Okla., on April 30 before a nine-inning game at Dobson Field on May 2.
