SNU betters OC on diamond, 10-3

BETHANY, Okla. (March 5, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team fell 10-3 at Southern Nazarene (Okla.) Wednesday afternoon in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

The defeat dropped OC to 5-9-1 and 0-9 in the SAC. SNU jumped to 17-5 and 7-2.

The Eagles led 2-0 after a half inning of play. Jeff Davis started a two-out rally with a single, then Tyler Gipson blasted a homerun to make it 2-0.

The Crimson Storm answered with three runs in the bottom half to go up 3-2.

The Eagles trimmed a 5-2 fifth-inning deficit to 5-3 when Jordan Price lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Chance Nichols.

But SNU tacked on two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Alex Rehnstrom doubled home Jared Elmore to give the Crimson Storm a 9-3 cushion through seven played.

A final SNU run came on a Cody White hit in the ninth to wrap up the 10-3 win.

Gipson led OC with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The Pflugerville, Texas, product drove in two runs and scored a run on his fifth bomb of the season.

Derek James (1-2) suffered the loss after going five innings and allowing five runs on nine hits.

The Eagles take the diamond again tomorrow against another SAC foe in Northwestern Oklahoma State. OC and NWOSU are set for a 1 p.m. first pitch in Alva.
