OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 12, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian University baseball team took a doubleheader split at Mid-America Christian (Okla.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles won the first game 4-1 behind Ryan Morris' seven-inning, six-hit effort. The right-hander picked up his first collegiate win to improve to 1-6 in 2008.
In game two, Oklahoma Christian fell 3-0, despite another quality effort on the mound. Stephen Sutton (0-2) took the loss after allowing only three runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings of work.
The four runs (three earned) allowed were the fewest the Eagles have given up in any doubleheader this season.
In the first game, OC scored twice in the top of the first to go on top for good.
Jordan Price, Josh Balch, Jeff Davis and Tyler Gipson all singled to start the game, with Gipson's base hit resulting in a Price run to make it 1-0.
Nick Hollrah made it 2-0 with yet another single to score Balch and up the edge to 2-0.
OC made it 3-0 in the second when Chance Nichols scored on an error.
Morris allowed his only run of the game on an error in the third before settling in with four straight scoreless innings to close the game.
The Eagles provided an insurance score in the fifth when Balch knocked in Price to give OC a 4-1 cushion.
Morris erased a one-out double in the seventh with a groundball to shortstop and popout to second to secure the win.
Price (2-for-4) and Balch (2-for-3) each had two hits in the game.
Game two saw Sutton make just his second start of the season on the hill.
After a scoreless first, the Evangels got two in the second on an Alex Webb home run and RBI single from T.J. Munch.
MACU scored once more in the fourth when Mike Wilkinson beat out in infield single that sent Brad Workman home to make it 3-0.
In the final inning, Josh Henry launched a one-out double to left-center field. But OC could not bring the left fielder home.
Balch had another 2-for-3 game at the plate to finish Saturday 4-for-6 overall. Both players had doubles in the loss.Â
OC and MACU will complete their series on Monday at Dobson Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Eagles' new baseball facility.
