
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 13, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian women's team fell 1-2 in a double overtime battle against Oklahoma Baptist University with the men claiming a 2-1 double overtime victory.
The Lady Eagles got off to a strong start in the first half gaining the first goal against OBU. Kacie Hoppe used a Taylor Cofer assist to send the ball into the net for OC's first goal putting the Lady Eagles up 1-0.
Midway through the second half, a foul in the OC box led to a penalty kick opportunity for the Lady Bison. OBU's Lin Yan took the shot and bypassed OC's goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1.
No additional scores were made before the end of regulation time taking the match into overtime.
During the first overtime period, no goals were scored advancing the game to the second overtime period. With less than five minutes left in the second overtime, Mengjun Zang of OBU broke past OC's line and scored the game-winning goal to give OC their second conference loss.
The Lady Eagles are now 8-3-1 on the season.
As a dense fog began to roll in, the men's game began with fierce competition. From the start, both teams made various advances against the other, however, no goals were scored for the first half.
The second half once again saw two lively teams with a heavy competitive drive. After several attempts on goal, the Eagles' Neil Hilton drilled the ball past the OBU goalkeeper on a Peter Gordon assist to put OC up 1-0.
Later in the game, a foul in the OC box led to a penalty kick opportunity for Oklahoma Baptist. OBU's Felipe Souza shot for the Bison with a successful attempt to tie the game at 1-1. Souza's goal sent the men's game into overtime.
The first overtime period once again saw two teams after the ball from the whistle. After the ball traveled back and forth across the field numerous times, Tyler Brady received the ball from Logan Frampton on a breakaway to come one on one with the OBU goalie. Brady sent the ball around the keeper to end the game and give the Eagles their seventh victory of the season.
The Eagles are now 7-2-1 with their second conference win of the season.
The Oklahoma Christian soccer teams head to the other side of town to continue conference play on Saturday. The women and men will play Oklahoma City University in a double header with the women's game beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's at 8:00 p.m.
