CLAREMORE, Okla. (Oct. 23, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian women's and men's soccer teams both battled to 1-2 losses against Rogers State University on Friday night.
The Oklahoma Christian women started their game with intense pressure on the Rogers State defense. Late in the first half, after several attempts from both teams, OC's Hope Heinen drilled a shot past the Hillcats' keeper off of a Callie White assist. The score put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 before the end of the half.
The second half saw the same fierce OC offense that continued to put pressure on the Hillcats. Despite the Lady Eagles' continuous attacks, nearly midway through the second half, RSU's Brittney McDonald tallied a score for the Hillcats from a Lauren Hager assist.
Now tied 1-1, both teams continued to fight for the last goal before the end of regulation time. With only five minutes left in the game, Kimmia Parker from Rogers State scored a second goal for the Hillcats after being assisted by Brittney McDonald.
Parker's goal was the last, giving the Hillcats a 2-1 victory of the Lady Eagles. The OC women are now 8-5-2 on the season.
In the men's game, the first half was a defensive battle as both teams took few shots. Through the remainder of the first half, a defensive shutout on both ends left the game scoreless.
The second period saw several more offensive attacks by both squads. Not long into the half, RSU's Desmond Fitzgerald used teammate TJ Martin's assist to score the first goal of the game putting the Hillcats up 1-0.
Moments later, the Eagles' Pablo Hernandez answered by putting the ball into RSU's net off of Logan Frampton's assist. The game now tied at 1-1 left both teams eager for a second goal.
With just over a minute left in play, Carlos Zuta from RSU scored the winning goal from Vitor Mantovani's assist leaving the Eagles with their fourth loss of the season. The Eagles are now 8-4-1 overall.
The OC women's and men's soccer teams head to Siloam Springs, Ark. to play John Brown University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The women will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m.
