Lady Rangers drop Lady Eagles in Alva

ALVA, Okla. (Dec. 6, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's basketball team lost a close matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State University 59-52 Monday on the road.

The Lady Eagles' Ayanna Jackson started things off with a two-point basket to give OC the first lead. The OC women did not give up the lead for the first five minutes of the game, despite three consecutive ties from the Lady Rangers.

Northwestern Oklahoma grabbed the lead for the first time at a score of 9-7 with 14:59 still to play in the period and then created a six-point advantage three minutes later.

With 8:35 showing on the clock, Jackson drained a three-pointer to put the Lady Eagles back in the lead at 15-13. Three more ties and five more lead changes occurred as the teams battled on the hardwood.

At 1:43 left, the Lady Eagles led by two after a trey from Katy O'Steen before the Lady Rangers created a one-point advantage with just eight seconds left to take the lead heading into the half.

From the start of the second half, the Lady Rangers used the first four and a half minutes to create an 11-point lead after a 12-2 run to create a deficit OC could not recover from.

With 12:50 left in regulation, the Lady Rangers pushed their lead to 12 before the Lady Eagles put up a 9-2 run to come back within five points of the NWOSU women with 7:24 still left to play.

The NWOSU women held the Lady Eagles at bay, however, despite the OC women cutting the margin to just three points with 3:20 left on the clock.

In spite of multiple attempts to recapture the lead, the Lady Eagles fell to the fate of the Lady Rangers' free throws to hold a 10-point lead with just 12 seconds on the game clock. A three-point from the Lady Eagles' Katy Clift with three seconds left cut the final margin to seven before the buzzer sounded and OC fell in a 59-52 defeat.

Jackson led the Lady Eagles with 16 points for the night while Clift registered a good game as well with 14 points of her own. Katy O'Steen, positioned at post, recorded a 10-point, 13-rebound game for the night.

With the loss the Lady Eagles fall to 5-4 overall and a 1-3 record in the conference.

The OC women will stay on the road for their final game before the holiday break as they head to Texas Wesleyan University to take on the Lady Rams on Saturday at 6 p.m.
