Duc Huynh had a goal and an assist 34 seconds apart in a 3-0 win over Mid-America Christian.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 4, 2011) – Duc Huynh scored and assisted on goals 34 seconds apart in the second half, leading Oklahoma Christian to a 3-0 win Tuesday night over Mid-America Christian.
OC (5-2-3, 1-1-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) rebounded after a disappointing loss to Southern Nazarene, although Mid-America Christian (2-5-2, 0-2-1) outshot the Eagles 23-13 and came within inches of tying the game in the second half.
The Eagles seized a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, as Trey Boykin scored off a free kick by Neil Hilton. Hilton hit the crossbar with a sizzling shot later in the half and OC appeared to be in control of the match.
But during the first 30 minutes of the second half, the Evangels outshot OC 15-0 and controlled the action. MACU's Ryan Hayes took a strong, close-in shot in the 58th minute that OC's Domenico DeGrazia headed off the goal line, keeping the Eagles in the lead.
Then, suddenly, the momentum swung back to the Eagles. Huynh knocked in a cross from Tommy Guernsey, and 34 seconds later, DeGrazia scored off assists by Huynh and Sam Guernsey. OC led 3-0 and wasn't challenged after that.
Goalkeeper Connor Davenport, making his first career start, recorded six saves for the Eagles. Zane Bourne went most of the way in goal for the Evangels, making one save, before giving way to Cody English in the final nine minutes.
OC will travel to Chickasha on Friday afternoon to face No. 25-ranked USAO, then will visit Rogers State next Tuesday before finishing the regular season with four of their final five games at home.
