OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 12, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team earned their second consecutive shutout victory with a 2-0 win over Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) while the women fell 5-1 on Tuesday.
The OC women fell behind early in the first period as the Lady Evangels jumped to a 2-0 lead during the first 30 minutes of the half and held the Lady Eagles to just four shots during the period. Unable to score before the half, the Lady Eagles trailed 2-0 heading into halftime.
Less than two minutes into the second half, OC's Sarena Underwood put up a response with a shot into the back of the net to get the Lady Eagles on the board trailing at 2-1. The goal is Underwood's fourth of the season.
Moments later, however, the Lady Evangels' Julia Nimal scored a second goal to increase the Mid-America lead back to two goals at 3-1. Nimal repeated herself shortly thereafter to again increase the Lady Eagles' deficit. Unable to score again, the OC women allowed one final goal with just minutes left to play to yield the 5-1 victory to MACU.
The Lady Eagles now hold a 2-8-1 season record with a 1-4 record for conference play.
The men's team continued their momentum off of last week's win to earn another shutout victory over the Evangels.
The Eagles faced a motivated MACU men's squad that put up 15 shots against the OC goal but were able to shutout the Evangels with goal keeper Tim Spencer making five saves.
Tyler Brady gave the Eagles an early cushion after firing the ball past the MACU keeper just a minute into play. The Eagles held the 1-0 advantage until midway through the second period when Tommy Guernsey connected on shot to put OC up 2-0.
Despite being outshot 9-4 in the second half, the Eagles held the Evangels scoreless to earn their second consecutive conference victory.
The win improves the Eagles to 2-9 overall and 2-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The OC soccer teams will return home for their next games as they host Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday. The women's game will kick off at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m.
