OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team took down Oklahoma Baptist University 1-0 on Saturday night while the women's suffered a 4-1 defeat.
The OC women met a tough match in the Lady Bison but attacked hard nonetheless and held the strong OBU offense at bay until less than eight minutes remained in the first period. A loose ball in the box led to the first score of the game by the Lady Bison to lead 1-0 heading into halftime.
Just minutes into the second period, however, the Lady Eagles responded with a goal when Hope Heinan powered a long shot into the back of the OBU net to tie things up at 1-1. Unfortunately, less than a minute later OBU's Cara Cecil scored to put the Lady Bison back at a one goal advantage.
Cecil scored two more goals on the Lady Eagles later in the half to increase the OBU lead to 4-1 before the close of the game to claim the victory. The loss leaves the Lady Eagles at 2-9-1 overall and at 1-5 for conference play.
The Eagles continued on to a three game win streak with their victory over the Bison pushing to a 3-2 conference record while remaining at 3-9 overall.
The OC men endured an array of 22 shots from the Bison but a tough Eagle defense held the OBU men to just seven shots on goal including multiple blocked shots by defender Logan Frampton.
Late in the first half, the Eagles' Trey Boykin finished off an assist from Neil Hilton just feet away from the goal to give OC a 1-0 advantage before the end of the half. Despite a back and forth way of things through the second period and many desperation charges by the Bison, the Eagles held firm to the end earning another needed conference victory.
The OC soccer teams will stay at home for their next games as they host Oklahoma City University on Tuesday. The women will kick off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
