OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Aug. 28, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women and men's soccer teams both fell to Baker University (Kan.) on Saturday with the women losing 3-0 and the men 4-1.
The Lady Eagles met a powerful Baker offense that put up an abundance of shots during the first half. Despite such, the OC women held the Lady Wildcats scoreless throughout the first period. The Lady Eagles struggled offensively managing only two shots.
Early in the second period, Baker's Christine Janssens netted the first goal of the game to put the Lady Wildcats at a 1-0 advantage. The Baker women continued to push offensively unable to score again until just five minutes remained in the half. BU's Jordan Dolbin put one past the keeper to increase the Lady Wildcats to a 2-0 lead.
Unable to respond, the Lady Eagles allowed a final goal with just seconds remaining on a Baker corner kick. The goal was kicked in by Janssens to leave the OC women with a 3-0 defeat.
The OC men's soccer team fell to a similar fate in spite of leading 1-0 at the half. The Eagles struggled offensively as well taking only two shots during the entire game while defending Baker's 23. Late in the first half, a foul in Baker's box gave the Eagles a successful penalty kick opportunity, shot by Neil Hilton, to put OC up 1-0 before heading into halftime.
During the second period, the Eagles faced a tied 1-1 game after Baker's Steven Stewart connected on a shot to give the Wildcats their first goal. The Eagles continued to face heavy pressure from the Baker men yet held them from scoring again until 13 minutes remained to play.
Between a penalty kick and two more goals, the Eagles succumbed to a 4-1 defeat during the last minutes of the game.
The losses leave the Lady Eagles with a 1-1 season record while the men fall to 0-2.
The OC soccer teams will head to Arizona for the Embry Riddle Invitational next weekend. The women and men will both face off against California State University – San Marcos on Friday.
