BETHANY, Okla. (April 30, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team split their double header against Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) on Saturday to close out regular season play winning game one 6-5 and dropping the second 7-5.
Game 1
Two scoreless innings started off the first game before the Eagles put up the first run in the third when Jeff Davis scored on a fly out from Taylor Parcus. In the bottom of the inning, however, Southern Nazarene responded with a single run to tie things up at 1-1.
In the fourth, the Eagles put up two more runs to take a 3-1 lead. Jordan Price was the first to make it home doing so on a ground out from Josh Balch. Dustin Andrews was the next to score going home on a single from Davis.
During the bottom of the inning, the Crimson Storm managed to score four runs to lead the Eagles 5-3 heading into the fifth.
The Eagles responded with three more runs to take a one-run lead at 6-5. Price scored first on a double from Andrews before Balch hit a single two batters later to send in Clint Bowker and Andrews to take the lead.
Two scoreless innings followed leaving the Eagles the victors at 6-5.
Balch and Davis led at the plate going 2-for-3 and 2-for-2, respectively, while Balch picked up two RBI and Davis one.
Game 2
In the second game against the Storm, two scoreless innings again started things off before the Eagles tallied a single run in the third to take the first lead at 1-0. Davis earned the score on a sacrifice fly from Parcus.
Another scoreless inning followed before the Eagles added three more runs in the top of the fifth. Garrett Stephenson hit a single to center to score Balch for the first run. Parcus followed with a triple to send in Stepheson and then followed home on the next at bat when Dillon Andrews singled.
Despite the Eagles' 4-0 advantage, the Crimson Storm responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the OC gap to just a single run at 4-3.
The Eagles put up an additional run in the sixth to make the gap two when Bowker scored on Caleb Price's fielder's choice.
The bottom of the inning proved fatal for the Eagles, however, as SNU tallied four runs to take the two-point lead at 7-5 and held OC in the seventh to seal the win.
Balch again led things at the plate going 2-for-3 while Parcus added 1-for-3 hitting with two RBI and one run scored.
With the split the Eagles carry and 24-18 record on the season and move to 16-14 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Ending regular season play, the OC baseball team will now set their sights on the SAC tournament scheduled for May 4-7 in Lubbock, Texas. The Eagles will first play No. 2 Oklahoma City University on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
